Taping & Finishing
This is the stage that decides whether a wall looks finished or just looks like drywall with paint on it. Taping and finishing takes patience most people underestimate — the right number of coats, real dry time between them, and sanding that levels the surface instead of just knocking down high spots. We finish to Level 4 (standard for most walls) or Level 5 (a skim coat over the whole surface, standard for gloss paint, accent walls, or anywhere raking light will show every flaw) depending on what the room and the paint finish actually call for.
What's Included
Three-coat tape and mud process minimum, with full dry time between coats — no shortcuts to hit a schedule
Corner bead and trim work on outside corners and openings
Level 4 finish (standard) or Level 5 skim coat (for gloss paint, accent lighting, or high-end finishes)
Final sanding pass checked under raking light, not just by hand-feel
How It Works
First coat (tape coat)
Joints and corners get taped and mudded first, embedding the tape flat with no air bubbles or wrinkles.
Fill and finish coats
Two more coats widen and feather the joint so it disappears into the surrounding wall, with full dry time between each.
Sand and inspect
Final sanding levels everything smooth. We check it under raking light before calling it done — the same way a painter will check it before they start.

What's the actual difference between Level 4 and Level 5?
Level 4 finishes the joints and corners to a smooth, paint-ready standard — it's what most rooms need. Level 5 adds a thin skim coat over the entire wall surface, which is what you want under gloss or semi-gloss paint, strong accent lighting, or anywhere flaws would otherwise show through.
How much dry time do you actually need between coats?
Enough that the mud is fully cured, not just surface-dry — rushing this is exactly how you end up with cracking or shrinkage later. We build real dry time into every schedule instead of estimating around it.
